In order to provide more opportunities for those who are interested to learn Mandarin and to understand China and Chinese culture in a broader frame, Confucius Institute at Durban University of technology is to offer the BASIC CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN COURSE (LEVEL 1)and CHINA AND CHINESE CULTURE COURSE:
BASIC CONVERSATIONAL MANDARIN COURSE (LEVEL 1)
The Basic Conversational Mandarin (Level I) course provides course attendees with elementary knowledge of the Chinese language, Chinese characters and ability to speak basic Mandarin.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
On completing this course, the attendee will be able to:
Understand the Chinese language within a specific framework
Speak basic Mandarin in simple dialogue by engaging in topic related conversations
Write at least 100 Chinese characters
The course also provides an opportunity for the course attendees to begin developing language proficiency towards sitting a Chinese Language Proficiency Test.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
No prior knowledge of Chinese language is required.
PROGRAMME PRESENTATION:
This programme is offered from 09h00 - 12h00 on Saturdays over 2.5 months, commencing 16 August 2014.
CHINA AND CHINESE CULTURE COURSE
The China and Chinese Culture Course, offered by Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology, combines an introduction to elementary Chinese language with the opportunity for attendees to acquire a basic knowledge of China and Chinese Culture.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
On completing this course, the attendee will acquire:
A broad understanding of China and basic Mandarin
A general impression about China and Chinese people, Chinese Pinyin and Chinese characters
Essential knowledge of Chinese customs and culture
An insight into how to respond to situations in a culturally appropriate manner
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
No prior knowledge of Chinese is required.
